In 1990 when Jerry Garcia founded Structures, his one man office specialized in residential projects. He began with small projects and as his reputation for good engineering grew, as did the complexity, scope and company staff.

One of our most complex projects was a $35 million dollar residence that implemented a wide variety of structural approaches to satisfy the architectural intent and construction schedule. A variety of structural solutions were implemented in the design including structural steel, suspended cast in place concrete, pan joist concrete systems, load bearing structural cmu as well as light gage metal assemblies. We completed the project on time and within budget.

It was the continual success of meeting our client’s needs that led to us being able to expand into the hospitality and restaurant markets. As with residential design these markets place a great demand on finishes and overall feel of the structure. We easily adapted what we had learned from years of residential design and once again became a part of many of the best hospitality and restaurant designs in Austin.

As the years went on we further expanded the market sectors we pursued. We began working on several adaptive re-use projects, including the Safady and Karbach Residences, Guerro’s, Kenichi and Mezzaluna.

In time, we were providing engineering services for k-12 facilities; cultural centers; worship facilities and helping artist fulfill their original concepts. We were even privileged enough to work on the historical preservation of St. Mary’s Cathedral.

In 2003 we established a strategic alliance with Haynes Whaley to provide high-quality structural engineering services to State agencies and institutions. Certified by the State of Texas as a Historically Underutilized Business, Structures + Haynes Whaley performs work on all types of facilities required by public entities. We have worked on several Texas university campuses and completed some of their more high profiled facilities, including The University of Houston Science, Engineering and Classroom Building. Through our affiliation we have also been able to be a part of several state, county and city public projects.

As an outcome of our hardwork and dedication, Structures is able to provide engineering services for a variety of market sectors and highly recognized projects.
